Mindful Winter Floral Arrangement Workshop
In winter 2025, Floral Reef & Co hosted a mindful winter floral arrangement workshop at a festive market organised by Support the Makers UK, held at Lind & Lime Gin Distillery in Leith, Edinburgh.
The workshop was led by Sara Ananrojwong, Founder and Floral Artist of Floral Reef & Co, as part of her evolving creative practice, which brings together floristry, emotional well-being, and spatial storytelling through an Asian lens within a Western context.
Rooted in expressive and mindful art-making, the workshop was designed to offer participants a pause from the busyness of city life. Through working with flowers as natural materials, the session encouraged self-focus, sensory awareness, and a deeper connection with nature. Over a 90-minute session, participants were gently guided through personal reflection, intention-setting, hands-on making, and personal reflection in a safe, supportive, self-expressive environment to maximise creative exploration.
The workshop drew inspiration from the winter season and locally sourced foliage found in the UK, reflecting the atmosphere and climate of Scotland. The arrangement approach was influenced by Asian philosophy, particularly Japanese Ikebana, emphasising balance, simplicity, and mindfulness. This methodology was carefully adapted to suit Western floral materials and to remain accessible to participants with no prior experience.
This event marked Sara Ananrojwong’s first mindful, art-making floral workshop, positioning flowers not only as decorative elements but as a medium for emotional expression, reflection, and gentle self-awareness. The workshop demonstrated how floral practice can function as a form of slow, intentional making that supports well-being within a contemporary creative context.
Contributing to the local creative community in Edinburgh was a meaningful aspect of this project. The workshop formed part of the wider creative ecosystem supported by Leith Creative Trail 2025 and Edinburgh Open Workshop, reinforcing Floral Reef & Co’s commitment to community engagement, cultural exchange, and accessible creative experiences.
With gratitude, Floral Reef & Co thanks Support the Makers UK, Lind & Lime Gin, Edinburgh Open Workshop, and Leith Creative Trail 2025 for their support and collaboration.
